Overview

The day begins with one of Cape Town’s most exciting family moments, a ride up Table Mountain in the iconic rotating cable car. As the car slowly turns, children and adults alike are treated to ever changing views of the city, ocean and distant mountain ranges. At the top, families step away from the busier viewpoints and enjoy a gentle walk towards Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point on the mountain. Keep an eye out for dassies, the curious Cape rock rabbits that dart between the rocks, and pause to enjoy a comforting hot chocolate and freshly baked treats while soaking up the fresh mountain air and dramatic scenery.

Back at sea level, the adventure continues with a relaxed outing along the Sea Point Promenade. Families can choose between an easy cycle on cruiser bikes or a fun stand up paddle experience along the calm waterfront canals. Cycling offers a lively coastal atmosphere with street performers, ocean views and colourful public art, while paddling provides a peaceful perspective from the water. Either option is safe, gentle and engaging, with plenty of opportunities for children to feel involved and confident.

Next, step into the lively world of the V & A Waterfront, where the harbour buzzes with colour, music and family friendly fun. Street performers entertain, boats glide in and out of the marina and there is always something exciting to discover around the next corner. Stop for a sweet treat, watch seals lounging near the docks or simply soak up the atmosphere together. With its mix of creativity, entertainment and open spaces to wander, the Waterfront offers an easy, engaging experience that keeps curious minds inspired and every generation smiling.

In the afternoon, head to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens for a nature filled playground experience. Armed with a treasure map, children can explore prehistoric cycad gardens, search for dinosaur sculptures and hop across steppingstones. The famous Boomslang tree top walkway adds an extra layer of adventure, offering elevated views while still feeling safe and accessible for families. Wide lawns invite free play and exploration, making this a relaxed and joyful stop for all ages.

The day winds down at Llandudno Beach, a favourite local family hangout. While children burn off their last bursts of energy with beach games, parents can unwind with their feet in the sand, listening to the waves and reflecting on a day packed with shared discovery, laughter and unforgettable Cape Town moments.

  • Tour Activities: Unpacked

Hike Table Mountain the Easy Way - Cable Car & Family Hike to Maclear’s Beacon
At the very top of Table Mountain is Maclear’s Beacon - the highest point of all. We’ll take the cable car both ways and enjoy the views while our guide brings Cape Town’s incredible history to life. The kids will enjoy tracking dassies, and will be fascinated by these furry rodents - more so when they learn that these rock rabbits are actually the closest living relatives of the African elephant!

Explore - Sea Point Promenade on Cruiser Bikes OR SUP The waterfront Canals
Spend an active morning along Cape Town’s vibrant waterfront, choosing between two exciting ways to explore. Pedal along the Sea Point Promenade on cruiser bikes, following the gentle oceanfront paths as locals jog, stroll, and skate past, with stunning views of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean providing a dramatic backdrop. Stop to admire playful public art installations, enjoy the salty breeze, and take in the lively, energetic atmosphere. Alternatively, take to the water on stand-up paddleboards along the calm canals of the V&A Waterfront. Glide past modern architecture, bridges, and lush greenery, spotting waterbirds and the reflections of the surrounding cityscape. Both options offer a fun, family-friendly, and invigorating way to experience Cape Town from land or water.

From the Big Wheel to Treasure Hunts - V&A Waterfront Family Time
Explore the V&A Waterfront through children’s eyes, where every corner promises colour, energy and hands-on fun. With your guide, choose what suits your family best on the day, perhaps riding the Cape Wheel for sky-high views across the harbour, spotting sharks and penguins at the Two Oceans Aquarium, or hopping aboard a boat to watch seals and working vessels in action. Younger children will love the Scratch Patch’s sparkling treasures, jungle gyms and open play areas, while teens can test their teamwork in a HintHunt escape game or get creative at an Art Jamming session. Street performers, buskers and sweet treat stops add to the buzz. With the help of your guide, choose-your-own adventure packed with discovery, laughter and memorable family moments.

Hike Kirstenbosch Gardens & Boomslang - Family Tree Top Canopy Hike
Kirstenbosch Gardens is acclaimed as one of the greatest Botanical Gardens in the world, and in March 2015 claimed the Garden of the Year Award at the 2015 International Garden Tourism Awards. The gardens is the perfect setting for anyone with an interest in plants, birds and photography and as you hike through exploring the vast array of flowers with your guide, you will head to the top of the gardens where the Tree Canopy Walkway, or Boomslang is situated. The Boomslang (meaning tree snake) will lead us from the forest floor right up through the trees, offering spectacular panoramic views of the mountains, Garden and City.

Local Family Hangout Drinks - Llandudno Beach
Llandudno Beach is one of Cape Town’s most picturesque crescents of sand at the foot of steep boulder-strewn mountain slopes a short distance from Hout Bay. Judas Peak on one side, and Klein Leeukoppie (Little Lion’s Head) on the other, frame this wonderful beach, and the views out over the Atlantic Ocean are superb. Wind down your day with a glass in hand and feet in the sand soaking up the last of the sun while the children play on the beach.
