Overview

The Cape Peninsula Active experience is all about movement, fresh air and getting close to the landscapes that make this region so extraordinary. Far removed from the city’s pace, the Peninsula reveals rugged coastlines, wild national parks and wide open spaces, offering a full day designed for travellers who want to explore at ground level and stay immersed in nature.

The day begins with a stop for excellent coffee at WAWA Rolling Wood, a creative surf and skate workshop set close to the ocean. Here, craftsmanship, coastal culture and caffeine come together in a relaxed setting that perfectly reflects the laid back energy of the Peninsula. With the sea air crisp and invigorating, it is an easy but energising start before the adventure unfolds.

From here, the journey continues along the False Bay coastline to Simon’s Town, where the focus shifts from land to water. In the sheltered coves near Boulders, guests may choose to explore by stand up paddleboard or kayak, gliding quietly across clear water and kelp forests as African penguins move between land and sea along the shoreline. For those who prefer to stay dry, a guided conservation walk offers a deeper understanding of the fragile coastal ecosystem and the penguin colony that thrives here, away from the busiest viewing areas.

Leaving the coast behind, the landscape becomes increasingly wild as the route heads into Cape Point. This is one of the most dramatic sections of the Peninsula, where hiking trails wind through indigenous fynbos, past hidden coves and along towering cliffs. Stories of historic shipwrecks bring the coastline to life, while wildlife sightings are common, including ostriches, baboons and tortoises roaming freely. During whale season, sightings from the cliffs add to the sense of wonder. White sand beaches, crashing waves and expansive ocean views make this a deeply rewarding outdoor experience.

The return journey follows the Atlantic Seaboard, delivering one of the most scenic drives in the world. Tracing all one hundred and fourteen curves of Chapman’s Peak Drive, the road clings to the mountainside as dramatic cliffs plunge toward the ocean below.

As the day draws to a close, settle into a much loved local hangout with a view or a vibrant atmosphere. A well earned drink offers the perfect moment to relax and reflect on a day defined by movement, wild landscapes and the raw, untamed beauty of the Cape Peninsula.

  • Tour Activities: Unpacked

Explore – Stop for Coffee at WAWA Rolling Wood Surf & Skate Workshop
Kick-start the day at WAWA Rolling Wood, a creative surf and skate workshop where Cape Town’s laid-back coastal culture meets craftsmanship and caffeine. Set just moments from the ocean, this quirky space blends handcrafted wooden surfboards, custom skate decks and design-led surf culture with seriously good coffee. Watch shapers at work, browse locally made boards and soak up the easy going energy that defines the Cape Peninsula lifestyle. It’s more than a coffee stop — it’s a window into the community that lives by the tides, swells and seasons. With the scent of fresh espresso in the air and the rhythm of the workshop humming in the background, WAWA sets the tone perfectly for a day of adventure along the coast.

Explore with Penguins - Stand Up Paddle, Kayak or Conservation Walk near Boulders, Simon's Town
A visit to the penguins is a must-do highlight of every Peninsula experience. We’ll leave the main breeding colony beneath the busy walkways and find our own rogue penguins on lesser known beaches from which helpful locals have removed the signs to keep the masses away. If you’re game, snorkel in rock pools the size of swimming pools, paddle SUPs or kayak across the kelp beds and view the penguins from a different perspective on the water. Those wanting to stay on dry land can experience a conservation penguin walk.

Hike Cape Point - Shipwrecks, Whales, White Sand and Wildlife
The beauty of this hike lies in the fact that the majority of visitors remain at the tourist centre at Cape Point, and seldom venture beyond. Once we’ve had a good look round, a swift ride on the aptly-named Flying Dutchman funicular takes us up to the Cape Point Lighthouse - fascinating history, and a vital landmark of this most south-western point of Africa. Next is a gentle hike in the reserve, which falls within the greater Table Mountain National Park, to look out for the Cape Five – ostrich, baboons, mountain zebra, bontebok and tortoises. Our search for wildlife will lead us to shipwrecks on deserted beaches, sheltered coves, and the sheer bliss of wild places far from the crowds.

Local Hangout Drinks with a View or Vibe - Cape Peninsula
As the day winds down, your Cape Peninsula adventure concludes with early evening drinks in a laid back local favourite in the Noordhoek area. Settle in at Aegir Project Brewery for a refreshing craft beer, soaking up the easy coastal atmosphere, or choose a more scenic finale with a curated onboard gin tasting at a spectacular viewpoint along the Atlantic Seaboard. With sweeping ocean views and the soft glow of the sun, it is the perfect moment to pause, reflect on the day’s experiences, and savour the magic of the Cape.

Explore - Cape Town's most scenic road with all 114 curves of Chapman’s Peak Drive
This ribbon of coastal road is rightly known as one the most scenic drives in the world. We’ll follow the tar around the shoulder of Chapman’s Peak which rises above on one side, and plunges way down to the rocky shores far below. Chapman’s Peak Drive links the village of Hout Bay to Noordhoek, around 114 bends which is quite possibly one of the most beautiful nine kilometres you’ll ever experience.
