The Cape Peninsula Active experience is all about movement, fresh air and getting close to the landscapes that make this region so extraordinary. Far removed from the city’s pace, the Peninsula reveals rugged coastlines, wild national parks and wide open spaces, offering a full day designed for travellers who want to explore at ground level and stay immersed in nature.
The day begins with a stop for excellent coffee at WAWA Rolling Wood, a creative surf and skate workshop set close to the ocean. Here, craftsmanship, coastal culture and caffeine come together in a relaxed setting that perfectly reflects the laid back energy of the Peninsula. With the sea air crisp and invigorating, it is an easy but energising start before the adventure unfolds.
From here, the journey continues along the False Bay coastline to Simon’s Town, where the focus shifts from land to water. In the sheltered coves near Boulders, guests may choose to explore by stand up paddleboard or kayak, gliding quietly across clear water and kelp forests as African penguins move between land and sea along the shoreline. For those who prefer to stay dry, a guided conservation walk offers a deeper understanding of the fragile coastal ecosystem and the penguin colony that thrives here, away from the busiest viewing areas.
Leaving the coast behind, the landscape becomes increasingly wild as the route heads into Cape Point. This is one of the most dramatic sections of the Peninsula, where hiking trails wind through indigenous fynbos, past hidden coves and along towering cliffs. Stories of historic shipwrecks bring the coastline to life, while wildlife sightings are common, including ostriches, baboons and tortoises roaming freely. During whale season, sightings from the cliffs add to the sense of wonder. White sand beaches, crashing waves and expansive ocean views make this a deeply rewarding outdoor experience.
The return journey follows the Atlantic Seaboard, delivering one of the most scenic drives in the world. Tracing all one hundred and fourteen curves of Chapman’s Peak Drive, the road clings to the mountainside as dramatic cliffs plunge toward the ocean below.
As the day draws to a close, settle into a much loved local hangout with a view or a vibrant atmosphere. A well earned drink offers the perfect moment to relax and reflect on a day defined by movement, wild landscapes and the raw, untamed beauty of the Cape Peninsula.
